Remix Time: Leo Justi - Dunno Riddim (Kid Conga Remix Instrumental)

Leo Justi is a curious case; A son of a oboe/piano musican, back ground in rock bands and musical taste as varied as can be. A carioca from out side of the baile funk scene and maybe just because of that producing some of the most interesting baile funk influenced remixes I've come across for a while. Check out this Dunno Riddim for example; baile, bmore and other drum loops nicely twisted and turned into a future Ninja Tune type of riddim that works both for brain and feet. DJ Rideon is on the road for a couple of gigs around Europe. First one is at the ever crazy Cocoloco in Stockholm, Sweden. It's hosted by Stockholm's finest remix duo Cocotaxi and for the party you might wanna checkout their brand new Isa GT remix. Pela'o with a serious ghettosoca vibe!

As you propably noticed this blog has been inactive for a long time now. I've been damn busy with other things and since it's been already four years since I've been to Rio the last time I've felt I couldn't offer interesting content from the Rio Baile Funk scene. Anyway, I'll still try to post interesting tracks, mixes and news when ever they come along my way.

But I've got also some good news for you: DJ Rideon is back in business. In May I'm gonna be going around Europe and DJing a couple of gigs in Sweden and Holland. In Helsinki it'll be a busy summer with Boom Shakalaka and We Love Helsinki nights.

And because of that you can find DJ Rideon now also at facebook, twitter, soundcloud and mixcloud. So follow, like, listen, download and all that.

It's remix time!

So many great baile funk influenced remixes have come around in the past years that I decided to start sharing them with you.

First up is a groovy remix of Sinden+Count feat MC Thiaguinho's "Tamborzuda" done by DJ Sabbo from Israel. I've been playing this on pretty much all my gigs past few months and damn it works!
(it really is crazy how music moves around the world nowadays... here I am, a finnish DJ playing a remix by israeli DJ of an english track with brazilian vocals relaesed by a german label.)

Two sites to get some baile funk on mp3

Here are couple of nice links to get mp3s of baile funk:

Funk Neurótico is a pretty famous site, where you can get proibidão songs as well as other stuff. The good thing is: There is plenty of stuff available for download and they put more on the site every week. There's a lot to go through and since you can listen before downloading, it can be frustrating shooting in the dark. The quality is also always 128kps so it's nothing to dj with... Also every song ends on a vinheta (= a radio hook) advertising the site and it's pretty annoying. Anyhow, loads of stuff there, browse through! (From the main site you choose músicas and then either atuais, rap's, melody's or montagens) And don't forget to peep through the video section...

Another one lesser known is DJ's club, which is aimed mainly for the producers. Here you'll be able to find songs from some of the top DJs in the produções section. But what's more important there's loops and samples and instrumentals for producing baile funk. Some of them are in wav, but others in 128kps mp3s and since you can't tell before you've downloaded them, it can be pretty frustrating going them through. Once I've browsed more I'll let you know which one's are in wav and worth while. If you find some, please leave a comment and I'll link them on the blog. Besides the loops and a capelas that everybody understands, browse through also the pontos (=sample-loops taken from other songs) and viradas (=the "turnings" which is more or less like a break or a bridge). Bases means instrumentals.
