It's so nice that some brazilian DJs have also picked up the habit of doing longer mixtapes. As you propably noticed this blog has been inactive for a long time now. I've been damn busy with other things and since it's been already four years since I've been to Rio the last time I've felt I couldn't offer interesting content from the Rio Baile Funk scene. Anyway, I'll still try to post interesting tracks, mixes and news when ever they come along my way.

But I've got also some good news for you: DJ Rideon is back in business. In May I'm gonna be going around Europe and DJing a couple of gigs in Sweden and Holland. In Helsinki it'll be a busy summer with Boom Shakalaka and We Love Helsinki nights.

And because of that you can find DJ Rideon now also at facebook, twitter, soundcloud and mixcloud. So follow, like, listen, download and all that.

DJ Rideon eurotour moves on and the next party will be tomorrow 21.5. in Copenhagen. The bar is Vega / Ideal bar and I'm gonna be playing at a special miami bass sub-club of thursday hip-hop institution Kontoret; the appropriately named Booty and The Beat.

Xão Productions - Aniversário Mixtape vol.1

It seems like New York has a very active baile funk scene. There's the Nossa crew that keeps bringing out great mixes (just featured Cassiano's Favela Clash) and there the Xão Productions that now celebrates its birthday with a great mix full of cool baile funk blends and remixes. They've been lately doing some cooperation with MC Gringo and played alongside with him in Rio at last year's TIM festival and Gringo has also been over to NYC to do some gigs with them. All together it seems like there are a lotta baile funk parties in NYC coming up by both Nossa and Xão. It seems like I need to go there to check it out!

DJ Edgar – Another tour in Europe and a brand new mix up.

Man Recordings Melt Festival Mix by DJ Beware

All you baile enthusiastics in Germany have a treat coming up, since on the 19th of July Man Recordings presents a special line-up at the Melt Festival. DJ Edgar – Coming with a full blast!

DJ Edgar is one of those persons you just have to like when you meet him: He's a bit like a gentle giant. The man's been DJing for 17 years now, played with the equipe of Furacão 2000, backed up the duo William & Duda (Duda do Borel nowadays) in the 90's, after that worked with MC Mascot and the duo Gorila e Preto, and for quite a while backed up Mr. Catra, toured with him and did most of the production for his albums.

Anyway, now he's going solo and planning an European tour for May. If you're interested in booking him contact Johan von Friedrichs.

His EP in Baile Funk Masters series has been out already half a year, but if you're not yet familiar with his stuff, do it now. His remix of Léo Canhoto's and Robertinho's "Chumbo Quente" is sure a hot gun blaze!

This guy called Hadrien from South of France sent me a short mix to hear on myspace. It's done with Ableton Live, so it's pretty fast and loop-based, but there are some clever cuts and mashes, and nice tunes so I thought I'd share it with you.

Rideon - Back To Miami (New Mix Out!)

Yes yes ya'll, it's time for a new mix!

This time we're taking it back to the old school. As most of you know one of baile funk's greatest influencies in the early days was Miami Bass, the bass-heavy, car-booming 808 sound with dirty lyrics that dominated in Miami during 80's. So for this mix I dug into my crates and brought you some pieces of history, a few miami bass essentials and a couple of rarer ones. It's 42 minutes of booming bass.

And if we're talking about baile funk's putaria style and sex-filled lyrics, here's where it all comes from. Needless to say that for example 2 Live crew were hugely popular in the baile funk scene of Rio suring the mid-80's.

(And I also must note that this isn't for those who take sexist lyrics too up-tight and serious. And this is definately NOT to be played on your computers toy-speakers or those poor-quality iPod whitey-headphones, but on a good hi-fi stereo with a lot of BASS. Or more suitably on your pimped ride full car-bass-boosters...)
